You need to have JDK 8 or later installed. It’s based on Java, and in principle it can support other JVM languages besides Scala, just as Gradle and Maven can support other languages besides Java/Groovy/Kotlin, but the configuration may become complicated. Either Oracle or OpenJDK will work.
